Key Takeaways
- Gym and auditorium flags can either display vertically or horizontally and most facilities select one or the other to maintain uniformity in the building.
- Flags can also be motorized allowing for them to be rolled up and down as needed, or, stationary where they hang in position.
- Having the correct dimensions for your gym or auditorium will assist in the correct sizing and type of flags needed.
Have you been looking for a gym or auditorium American flag and wondered what size you should get or the display of the U.S. flag? We wanted to get those answers for you so you know the best route to go in order to find the correct size and display for the flag.
Horizontal or Vertical Display?
This question really depends on the height of the ceiling and where you are going to place the flag. If you want to hang the flag from the ceiling you will need to take into account where and how it will be displayed as well as the size you will need.
The first thing that you need to make sure you are doing is to have the star field on the upper left for both vertical and horizontal display flags. If there is a main entrance to your gym or arena you would place the flag so that the star field is presented in the upper left hand corner.
The size of the flag would also depend on the height of the ceiling. You don’t want a flag that hangs too low in the gym to interfere with activities. Most of the time the vertical flags are hung on the wall because the length wouldn’t necessarily matter. You would just need to make sure that the length of the flag is appropriate for the wall it’s going on.
Horizontal gym flags usually can be hung from just about anywhere since the length that hangs down isn’t as much of an issue. Just make sure that whatever place you pick for the flag that the star field is displayed in the upper left hand corner to the main entrance. For gyms and arenas that have more than one entrance you will have to just try and pick what your main entrance is and display the flag appropriately. Martin’s Flag has sizes of flags ranging from 5’x8′ up to 20’x30′ and every size in between so we are able to accommodate any size flag that you may need.
Motorized Gym Flag or Stationary Flag Display?
We offer two different types of gym flags. We have motorized gym flags and stationary flags. The obvious difference is the price of them. With motorized gym flags there is a key on the wall that you wire to bring the flag up and down. We also have a remote and transmitter that is available for an additional charge and this just gives you an easier option to lower the flag. Motorized gym flags are a wonderful option to go with if your budget allows. The flag is rolled up in the case when not in use so it gives you better options of where the flag could be placed. For instance, if you went with the vertical gym flag it’s going to hang down with the case somewhere around 20′. You can unfurl the flag as long as ceiling height allows in the middle of the gym and make for a dramatic and impactful lowering of the flag. It makes for a great visual display when the flag is unrolled from the case. You can also add vinyl artwork to the box of the flag so that if a company or someone wants to sponsor the purchase of the flag you could recognize this by displaying their name or company logo. This is an easy thing for a local sign company to do. The automatic gym flag comes in either a horizontal or vertical display and the flag size is 12’x18′. This is the only size that is available for the motorized flag.

Whatever size and type of gym flag that you choose just take into account where you are hanging it and the space you have available. The motorized gym flag adds a lot of options just due to the fact that the flag rolls back up into the case after the national anthem. For a more budget friendly option the stationary U.S. gym flags are also a great option.
